Classes offered: Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Acrobatics/Gymnastics, Pre-Hip Hop & Hip Hop
The foundation of all dance forms, ballet provides each student with the grace, balance, technique and control applicable to most dance styles. We recommend that our students participate in a ballet class to build that foundation, but it is not required. Pointe is for advanced students who have reached a level of strength, technique and physical maturity that will allow them to work on pointe with minimal difficulty and danger. Students are required to take at least three years of ballet prior to beginning pointe and maintain their ballet training.
Not only can you dance to music, in tap class, you make and enhance the music! By developing tap technique, students learn the qualities of rhythm and improve their sense of phrasing and timing. Tap is way more than just making noise!
Phew! Dancers get a work out in jazz class when they incorporate body isolations, jumps and turns, flexibility and musicality to their dance education. Among the many styles of jazz dance, The Elite School of Dance by Elena also offers Musical Theater, which draws from the movement on Broadway and on the silver screen.
Lyrical class meshes jazz and ballet techniques together to form its uniquely expressive flair. In lyrical, students learn to tell the story of the music through their movement.
Contemporary dance has been on the rise over the last few years and is now being recognized as a genre of dance. Fusing modern dance, as well as classical ballet, contemporary dance draws on newer philosophies of movement that stray from strict dance techniques which allows for open and free-spirited form and movement.
Students in Acro/Gym classes strengthen their bodies to perform stunts ranging from backbends to back handsprings. Classes divide their time between conditioning to build muscles and working on executing tumbling and contorting exercises.
Hip Hop is a high energy, athletic, popular dance style originated on the streets and has come full circle incorporating Martial Arts, Jazz, and Modern dance. Pre-Hip Hop is designed for our younger dancers, paying attention to their age and ability level by choosing appropriate movement and music.
Cheer dance is a form unique to our studio that combines the components of tumbling and dance, but adhering to the typical sharp, crisp moves of cheerleading. You can learn all of the essentials and basics to be a cheerleader but, with the safety of no stunts and/or mounting.
*Class placement is made with the ability of the individual student in mind. A student’s level may not always be determined by their age or grade, but sometimes by their natural talent. Students may only advance to the next level of any class with instructor approval.
*A complete dance education is provided throughout the year, but dance educators recognize that ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. It is recommended that a student participate in a ballet class to build that foundation for their dance training, but it is not required. |
